He is quite reserved about his views, Dr. He even considers the visitor's Roger had met lately, later we see how important the Dictaphone becomes, which was brought by a company man. All of this has some implication for him while the police had plainly ignored it. He has logic and is highly observant, while searching the study, which is the murder scene, he notices the direction of the chairs, the fire burning low, and how the windows were bolted. He knows that under the right circumstances everybody is capable of murder and investigates in this manner. He carefully deconstructs the secrets of the members of Roger’s household and even the probable others involved. Poirot is genuinely interested in human behavior and nature, he prides on solving cases that others cannot disentangle. Now Poirot takes up the case, not for money and he even confesses that he isn’t interested in the fame that it brings about as he’s had enough of all that. He is forced out of retirement when Roger Ackroyd is murdered and he is approached by Flora Ackroyd, Roger’s niece and Ralph’s fiancée to investigate the murder who wants Ralph Paton, Roger’s stepson who was a major suspect because of his absence and probable motive of inheritance to be given a clean chit. We are introduced to Poirot in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by stating that he had come to King’s Abbot to peacefully spend his retirement in growing vegetable marrows.
